Sahyadri College off NH 48 at Adyar near here will be one of the centres for CET counselling this year. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) in the process of decentralizing counselling for admission to professional courses for the current year has decided to start counselling centres in Hubli, Gulbarga, Mangalore and Shimoga. This initiative will benefit students from places surrounding Mangalore.
A press release from Sahyadri College here on Wednesday stated Mangalore has the second highest number of candidates after Bangalore appearing for the CET. A counselling centre here will ease the pressure on counselling staff at the Bangalore centre besides saving the hassle of travel for the candidates and their parents to Bangalore. KEA officuals who visited the college campus, were impressed by the infrastructure.
The college campus is well connected with good public transport system, parking and other infrastructure required for such a centre. About 15,000 students from Dakshina Kannada, Chikmagalur, Udupi, Uttara Kannada districts are likely to benefit from this counselling centre for medical and engineering courses. The 10,000 sq feet area on the ground floor of Sahyadri College of Technology will be used as the counselling centre.
There will be separate space for inspection, registration, and reviewing sections. The proceeding will be projected on giant LCD screens and blue prints for installing server and networking is prepared in consultation with technical committee of KEA. This will enable networking with Bangalore and other centres. The KEA in collaboration with BSNL has availed a leased line and satellite connectivity.
The counselling centre will also have a banking counter and canteen facilities. There will be mock counselling done to test the accuracy and working of the system in March and the centre will be operational from the month of June to August, the release adds.
