NOTIFICATION : ADMISSION TO PROFESSIONAL COURSES IN KARNATAKA FOR THE YEAR 2009-10

1. Applications are invited from eligible candidates of Karnataka including the wards of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants for
registration for the “Common Entrance Test-2009” for admissions to first year Medical / Dental / Ayurveda /
Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga / Engineering / Technology / Architecture courses for the seats to be
notified by the Government in the Professional Educational Institutions in the state of Karnataka for the academic
year 2009-10.
2. A candidate must appear for the Common Entrance Test conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority, for PCB
subjects in case of admission to Medical / Dental / Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses and
PCM subjects in case of admission to Engineering / Technology courses. For admission to Architecture course the
candidate must appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture.

3. The merit will be determined in accordance with the provision of the “Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission
to Government Seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006”.
4. Academic Eligibility:
nd th (a) For Medical / Dental courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2 PUC / 12 std. or equivalent
examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and with English as one of the languages of
study and have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in the PCB group and should secure a minimum
of 50% of marks in aggregate in PCB subjects in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to
Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum
marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in PCB group both in Qualifying Examination
and Common Entrance Test.
(b) For Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka
2nd PUC/ 12th std. or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and with
English as one of the languages of study and have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in PCB
group irrespective of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled
Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for
the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in PCB group in the qualifying examination.
For admission to Medical / Dental / Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses, the candidate
should have completed the age of 17 years as on 31st of December 2009.
nd th (c) For Engineering / Technology courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2 PUC / 12 Std. or equivalent
examination with Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science /
Electronics / Biology as optional subjects with English as one of the languages of study and obtained a minimum of
45% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects, irrespective of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test.
In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1,
2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the
optional subjects in the qualifying examination.
nd th (d) For Architecture course, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2 PUC / 12 Std. or equivalent examination
with Mathematics as a compulsory optional subject and obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in all
the subjects in the qualifying examination (45% of marks in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes,
Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B)] and should compulsorily appear
for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) and get a minimum of 40% in it. (Including Scheduled Castes,
Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes)


IMPORTANT NOTE:

1. A candidate who had obtained a seat in any discipline through the KEA (CET Cell) in any of the previous years
will not be eligible to appear for the Common Entrance Test-2009 for selection of a seat in the same discipline.
Such candidate will immediately forfeit the seat selected by him during the previous years, upon selection of a
seat in a different discipline during the year.
2. The merit list of candidates for admission to Medical and Dental courses will be determined only on the basis of
marks obtained by candidates in PCB subjects, taken together, in the Common Entrance Test. For Ayurveda /
Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga / Engineering / Technology courses, the merit list will be
determined on the basis of marks obtained in the respective optional subjects, in both qualifying examination
and the Common Entrance Test taken in equal proportions. For Architecture course, the Merit list will be
determined on the basis of marks obtained in both qualifying examination and NATA taken in equal proportions.

KARNATAKA EXAMINATIONS AUTHORITY, Bangalore FAQ's

Questions and Answers regarding Casual Vacancy round.

Q.1. Who are eligible for Medical/Dental casual vacancy round?

Ans: All Medical/ Dental rank holders are eligible to participate in Medical / Dental casual vacancy round. Candidates who have selected any seat or not selected any seat or attended or not attended the admission round are eligible in the casual vacancy round of Medical / Dental as per their merit and schedule.

Q.2. I have selected Medical/Dental/ISMH/Engineering Seat, but not reported, weather my seat is cancelled or the date can be extended?

Ans: Those who have selected the Medical/ Dental/ ISMH/ Engineering seat in the admission round are eligible in the casual vacancy round, whether reported to the college or not. If you select another seat during casual vacancy round, the computer automatically cancels the seat already taken in the admission round and also transfer the full fee amount paid during admission round without any penalty or deduction of fees. If you will not select any seat during the casual vacancy round, the old seat will remain in your name, on that day the date of admission printed on the admission order will be extended. (Candidates need not to worry about the extension of date and seat will not be cancelled.)

Q.3. If I select a seat in casual vacancy round of Medical/ Dental, reporting or not reporting can I attend for casual vacancy Engineering/ Architecture round?

Ans: The candidates who are holding a Medical/ Dental seat and also who select Medical/ Dental seat during casual vacancy round are not eligible to participate in ISMH/ Engineering/ Architecture casual vacancy round. If such candidates wishes to participate in the ISMH/ Engineering/ Architecture casual vacancy round should invariably surrender their Medical/ Dental seat on or before their turn comes in the Medical/ Dental casual vacancy round.

Similarly, a candidate holding ISMH seat during casual vacancy round or confirms the ISMH seats selected during admission round will not be eligible to participate in Engineering/ Architecture casual vacancy round. If such candidates wishes to participate in the Engineering/ Architecture casual vacancy round should invariably surrender their ISMH seat on or before their turn comes in the ISMH casual vacancy round.

Q.4. I have participated in the Engineering admission round and not selected any seat, can I attend to the casual vacancy round of Engineering/ Architecture?

Ans: All Engineering rank holders are eligible to participate in Engineering casual vacancy round. Candidates who have selected or not selected a seat / attended or not attended during casual vacancy round are eligible in the casual vacancy round of Engineering as per their merit and schedule. And those who are holding Medical/ Dental/ ISMH seat are not eligible to participate in the casual vacancy round of engineering/ Architecture.

Q.5. I have selected a seat in admission round in Medical/ Dental/ ISMH /Engineering /Architecture and attending casual vacancy round of Medical/ Dental/ ISMH/Engineering /Architecture, if I will not select any seat and cancels the seat, how much fee amount will be deducted?

Ans: Candidate can change the college or course or place, subject to availability of the seats during his turn comes in the casual vacancy round, the seat selected during the admission round will get automatically cancelled if he/she select a new seat and will be added to the board and that seat will be offered for next eligible candidates on merit as per schedule. The fees paid by them during the admission round will be adjusted upon selection of seat, no fee amount will be deducted.

Medical/Dental:

If the candidate cancel the Medical/ Dental seat selected during the admission round, before his/her turn comes in the casual vacancy round of Medical/ Dental, 50% of the fee amount will be forfeited and the balance amount will be refunded on the same day.

If the candidate cancel the Medical/ Dental seat selected during the admission round, after his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of Medical/ Dental, 100% of the fee amount will be forfeited.

ISMH:

Similarly, If the candidate cancel the ISMH seat selected during the admission round, before his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of ISMH, 50% of the fee amount will be forfeited and the balance amount will be refunded on the same day.

If the candidate cancel the ISMH seat selected during the admission round, after his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of ISMH, 100% of the fee amount will be forfeited.

ENGG:

Similarly, If the candidate cancel the ENGG seat selected during the admission round, before his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of ENGG, 50% of the fee amount will be forfeited and the balance amount will be refunded on the same day.

If the candidate cancel the ENGG seat selected during the admission round, after his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of ENGG, 100% of the fee amount will be forfeited.
