CET Cell dons new look as KEA

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), the new avatar of the Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell is all set to discharge its duties, in a bigger capacity.

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), which conducts the CET, has highlighted a few aspects that are new this year.

The KEA, now an authority registered under the Cooperatives Societies Act, has been approached by several clients for conducting entrance tests for recruitment processes.

CET 2008 Results

CET Results are no more far. Soon after the II PUC results are out we may find the CET 2008 results in no time . Because the last year the results came late and the students wanting to join the
professional courses had t wait a lot to enter in the respective colleges.

But this time as the PUC exams and the CET were held early so we may see the result very soon and the seat selection process this time will be faster thsan last time.

It seems that the change of CET to KEA has done the perfect thing taking lessons from last times delay of results and slow seat selection process.

Biometric Identification

CET 2007 had biometric identification for each student at every stage of the test. All candidates should compulsorily affix their left hand thumb impression in their CET application form and also on the OMR answer sheets of all subjects. Students who have selected seats during the admission round, will not be eligible for seat selection during the casual vacancy round. However, candidates who have (a) not attended or (b) have attended but not selected or (c) cancelled the seat before the commencement of casual vacancy round or during their turn in the casual vacancy round, are eligible for seat selection during the casual vacancy round.

In 2006, 10 per cent of engineering seats and 800 dental seats went a begging.

Single test not a priority

After assuring students of a single CET, the government now seems to be soft-pedalling on the issue. "The single test agenda was not on top of our priority list. We were gunning for a fair seat share and fee structure, which we have achieved. We will continue trying for the single test, but if we fail, I don't mind," the minister said.

New guidelines for CET 2007

The Common Entrance Test 2007 seems to be bigger and better than its predecessors.
For one, every single answer sheet will be uploaded on the CET website for students to verify their answer sheets against the key answers.
"It will be completely transparent, where one student will be able to see another's answer sheet as well," minister for higher education D H Shankaramurthy said after releasing the CET 2007 brochure on Wednesday.
This year, students have an added bonanza of 1,500 engineering seats. Polytechnic colleges in Bhadravati, Chikmagalur, Kushalnagar and Hassan with 300 seats each are being upgraded to engineering colleges.
In addition to this, a new engineering college at Ramanagaram with 300 seats will add up to the CET matrix this year. "The existing polytechnic students will continue in the college till their course is completed," Shankaramurthy added.

CET 2008

As of 2008 CET will be known as KEA - Karnataka Examination Authority. KEA will conduct all exams on behalf of the Education department of Karnataka.
The government's share of seats in the CET has been gradually decreasing over the years. It was 85:15 in 1994-95 but is now reduced to 40:60 (medical). Private college managements are expected to petition the education secretariat on not giving up any medical/dental seat to the government for next year's UG admissions. The govt in 2007 had increased the salaries of teaching staff in government medical and dental colleges. Now, the private colleges too must hike the salaries to retain staf. Each college will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 3 crore.
